Find accommodation for a large group of friends

Why stay in a hotel where, at best, you’re separated by rooms and, worse, by entire floors? The Barn at Salcombe Farm, nestled deep within the rolling hills above Salcombe Estuary, specialises in crafting dream getaways for large groups, sleeping up to 18 hens. Smaller parties can always book The Stables, which sleeps up to 6, or The Recording Studio, which sleeps up to 12.

The Barn is a versatile space to relax, cook, share meals, and spend time together. Both inside and out. A picturesque barn with a contemporary interior that reflects its countryside location while embracing the luxury of top-notch amenities. Including a washer/dryer, hi-def television, Wi-Fi, coffee machine, and outside hot tub.

The Barn has six double bedrooms with en-suite, two kitchens and two living rooms. A dining table that seats up to 18 with the option to BBQ outside during the warmer months.

As soon as you step inside The Barn, you’ll never want to leave, but you’re staying in Salcombe with so much to do and explore, and you’re about to embark on a weekend with a lifetime of memories.

What is there to do in Salcombe?

Forget the clichés of uncomfortable karaoke and sticky carpeted nightclubs. Salcombe offers an adventure playground overflowing with unique experiences. With your base firmly established, it’s time to discover all that Salcombe has to offer.

The winding streets lined with independent shops, cafés, and art galleries are at the heart of Salcombe’s charm. Each is a treasure trove waiting to be discovered, filled with nautical-inspired treasures.

Fuel your mornings with a barista-crafted latte at Salcombe Coffee Company and an early breakfast or a lazy brunch. Serving what has been described as “Bacon sandwiches the size of your face.”

Or indulge in locally sourced delights at Salcombe Dairy and experience their Chocolate Alchemy (pro tip: their ice cream is legendary).

For a touch of history, delve into the fascinating maritime tales at the Salcombe Maritime Museum, or get lost in the whimsical world of Overbeck’s Gardens at Sharpitor, overflowing with botanical wonders, a hidden paradise of subtropical gardens.

Of course, we haven’t forgotten that this is a hen party, so maybe it’s time to experience the best gin and wine Salcombe offers.

For gin lovers, visiting the Salcombe Gin Distillery is a must. You can learn how to handcraft and distil your own bottle of gin, experience the art of rum distillation, or take part in a distillery tour and tutored tasting session in the waterside bar.

Or discover how Devon’s microclimate makes it the perfect UK location for producing great-tasting wine. Visit Sandbridge Barton, the home of Sharpham Wine, for a tour and wine-tasting session as part of a guided tour or at your own leisure.

What are the best beaches in Salcombe?

If the weather is good enough, you may need time to ditch the stilettos and whack on the sunnies. It’s time to hit the beach. But which one? You could spend two weeks in Salcombe without visiting the same beach twice. But for starters, here are three of our favourites.

Bantham Beach

One of Devon’s premier beaches, set within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is always well worth a visit. A shallow sandy bay with stunning panoramic views. Great for paddling and swimming, it is also known as one of the best surf beaches on the south coast. Home to Bantham Surfing Academy for those who want a taste of the Californian lifestyle.

Depending on the time of year, you may be lucky enough to enjoy the tasty offerings of the Gastrobuses. Choose between delicious cakes, ice creams, milkshakes, the best burgers in Bantham, or pizza. And as you are on a hen-do, it would be rude not to sample the alcoholic beverages on offer from the Gastro Bar.

Blackpool Sands

Blackpool Sands, a ‘Blue Flag’ beach, is set in a sheltered bay, nestled amongst the evergreens and sweet-smelling pines. With turquoise blue water to paddle and swim in, some would argue that this is the best beach South Devon offers.

If you want something more adventurous, hire a kayak or paddleboard from Sea Kayak Devon. And when you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll be grateful for The Venus Café. Situated right on the beach with fantastic views and even better tasting food, specialising in Devon’s best organic produce.

South Sands

South Sands could be the best beach for those looking to spend a day trying water sports. Situated next to the South Sands Boutique Hotel, beach café, and water sports centre.  Of course, with its flat sands, it’s also perfect for those who just want to top up their tan.

We recommend arriving by the South Sands Ferry. The ferry completes a  round trip from the Normany Pier up the estuary to South Sands, where you will then be ferried to the beach by a sea tractor. When it’s time to go home, you can walk along the coastal path or brave the Sea Tractor once more and return by ferry.

Salcombe Adventure

Salcombe’s true magic lies on the water. Unleash your inner mermaid with a paddleboarding adventure on the glassy estuary. Imagine the shared laughter as you navigate hidden coves, admire the dramatic coastline, and feel the gentle slap of water against your paddle.

Are you feeling more adventurous? Test your courage with coasteering. Clambering over rocks, jumping into crystal-clear waters, and feeling the invigorating thrill of the ocean against your skin. Adventure South offers exhilarating guided coasteering experiences specifically designed for groups, ensuring safety and maximum fun.

What is the nightlife like in Salcombe?

For a touch of sophistication, embark on a sunset cruise aboard a traditional sailing boat. As the golden light paints the sky and the gentle waves lap against the hull, sip on sparkling wine, raise a toast to the bride-to-be and let the pre-wedding worries melt away.

Craving something livelier? Salcombe boasts vibrant pubs with buzzing terraces and friendly locals, perfect for enjoying delicious food and refreshing cocktails.

With so much to choose from, you will truly be spoilt for choice. These are just some of our favourites.

Boatswains at The Kings Arms

The Kings Arms is a grade II listed waterside pub in central Salcombe that was completely refurbished in 2019, serving fresh local seafood and a menu full of pub classics.

The Cove

With stunning views from their upstairs bar, The Cove is a great place to check out the sunset. This award-winning bar offers some of the best food you’ll eat, fresh home-cooked food using the best local ingredients. Something is always happening at The Cove, from live music and screenings of the biggest sporting events to comedy nights.

The Gararock Hotel

One of our favourite places to eat on a special occasion is The Gararock Hotel, for what can only be described as delicious food with a touch of quirkiness.  Enjoy the stunning views as you peruse the a la carte menu for food as beautifully presented as it is deliciously tasting.

Of course, you may fancy a night back at The Barn. Cook some fresh Salcombe catch of the day on the barbecue and chill in the hot tub under a starry-filled sky.
