BUILT WITH LOVE

A Family Farm

Salcombe Farm is a family owned and run business by Charles, Felicity, Freya, and Freddie. The conversion of the barn into a successful holiday lettings business has been achieved by way of joint effort. The result is spectacular, particularly due to the stunning interior design which was designed by Felicity with assistance from Freya, together they used their natural flair for interiors to create a beautiful space for our guests to enjoy. Our interiors have been featured in a number of home interior magazines.

Royal Connections

During his 2011 visit to Salcombe, Prince Charles made a memorable stop at the renowned wooden boat builder, Mike Atfield. At that time, Atfield was crafting our very own Salcombe Yawl, a classic wooden sailing boat. In a delightful turn of events, Prince Charles was invited to bestow a name upon the vessel. Regrettably, he had to decline, humorously citing his lack of pre-prepared champagne for such an auspicious moment. Nevertheless, the yawl was later christened the “Great Bustard” and can now be spotted gracefully racing in the waters of Salcombe Harbour.

Musical Retreat

Formerly a recording studio that welcomed legends like Robert Plant and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin, The Barn at Salcombe Farm has transformed into a unique accommodation experience in Salcombe. Step into the echoes of music history, where the walls resonate with the creative sparks that once ignited legendary tunes. Your stay at The Barn is more than accommodation; it’s an immersive journey through the corridors of musical nostalgia, inviting you to dwell in the magic of its storied past.

THE BARN

From Studio to Empire

Within what is now ‘The Recording Studios’ at Salcombe Farm, Richard Branson and cousin Simon Draper laid the foundation for Virgin Records—the inception of the Virgin empire. Salcombe Farm, thus, stands as a vital chapter in the Virgin story, offering guests not just a retreat but a connection to the birthplace of a global business legacy.

THE RECORDING STUDIOS

Award Winning Ponies

Nestled within the scenic landscapes of Salcombe Farm is the esteemed Salcombe Stud, proudly recognized as one of the country’s premier Dartmoor pony studs. Under the dedicated care of Felicity, the ponies of Salcombe Stud have achieved remarkable success over the years, boasting prestigious accolades such as victories at the Horse of The Year Show, Royal International at Hickstead, and Best of Breed at the London International Horse Show. Notably, one of Felicity’s ponies had the honor of spending time at Windsor Castle on loan to the royals, adding a regal touch to the stud’s illustrious history.
