Salcombe Ferry

Jumping onto the Salcombe to East Portlemouth passenger ferry it’s just a couple of minutes before you alight on the landing platform. You can either turn left to Fisherman’s Cove or right to Small’s Cove and then take in a beautiful walk along the coastal path. Alternatively, hire or use your own boat to access this beach.

The Smoking Lobster

The Smoking Lobster is not a crustacean with a penchant for Cuban cigars, but the newest foodie destination in Salcombe. The new brainchild of popular and highly creative local chef, Jamie Rogers, of Twenty-Seven, Kingsbridge fame. It’s a pop-up casual seafood restaurant (don’t expect white table linen here) in the glorious setting of Cliff House in Salcombe across from the jawdroppingly beautiful bay to the golden beaches of East Portlemouth. Their signature dish is a smoked lobster accompanied by dirty millionaire fries – triple cooked with black garlic emulsion, aged Parmesan, and truffle shavings. Yum!

South Sands Ferry

The South Sands Ferry is another unique form of transport with its iconic red, blue and yellow colours, decorated in flag bunting. The boat trip is a round trip from Normandy Pier up the estuary to South Sands beach where you will be met by a Sea Tractor ferrying passengers between the boat and the South Sands beach. You can equally start from South Sands, take the ferry to Salcombe and either return by ferry or walk back along the coastal road enjoying the views at your leisure. You’re in for a memorable journey either way.

The Crab Shed

The restaurant is perched on the water’s edge close to their very own Crab Factory, where all the crab meat, fish and shellfish is hand-picked; straight from the fishing boats that operate from The Fish Quay. This is definitely the spot to try dressed or whole crab. It’s a super place for fish and chips too.
